ARRRGGGGHHH! Another one of those mornings. I sure would like to have about three of me. I think Julie and Kelly and most certainly Cindy could use a few clones too…
My Internet was down this morning, as was my digital phone service. And since the ADN line runs through the Time Warner box, it was down too. And apparently the adoption.com site has had some hiccups today. And I just returned from the doc’s office to have my other big toe horrifically poked with a needle several times and numbed so as to remove yet another ingrown toe nail. It's numb now!!! It feels two feet wide...
Jeezzz. My to do list is off the charts.
I just received my copy of
Adoption Today. An article I wrote about disruption and dissolution is included… and I am wondering if I will now be inundated with requests for help? I already have about five kids needing a new placement. Kelly wrote some great blogs about it
here. I spoke with a mom this morning (using my cell phone, which happens to turn itself off when I think it is on…) who is trying to assist an agency in re-placing a 4 year old girl. A family has been identified but this mom was wondering about resources available to help the new family pay for some of the expected long term expenses. While it is possible to access federal subsidies for internationally adopted kids, it is very, very difficult. And another option is to run the child through the foster care system, but that is fraught with many risks and social services is loath to pay any state funds for internationally adopted kids. Heck, many states hardly pay for domestic kids, much less the international ones.

Barb Holtan, now CEO of
AdoptUSKids, used to get a plethora of calls each month from families disrupting EE kids. She wrote a great article about it half a dozen years ago. I’ll see if I can get permission to share it with you.
