Cowgirls Ride the Trail of Truth ... playing games

gameTonight was “cowgirls night in”. While I was in Colorado last month, I found this game that sounded like tons of fun. It is called Cowgirls Ride the Trail of Truth and it is a board game played only by women, moving horses along the game board, answering questions and acquiring a saddle, boots, spurs, hat, steer head, and a gun. The first one to the end of the board who has all the acquisitions wins the game. Along the way you answer questions, much like Trivial Pursuit.

Some of my questions were pretty interesting, and my answers sure were indicative of the changes in my life after adding disturbed kids.

One question was “How many kids do you think is enough?” I had to laugh over that one, because Kyle used to say he’d be having kids while I was still adding kids. My husband let me get all these dogs because he knows it scratches an itch and dogs cost less and have a shorter life span! I used to think I would never want to be done … but I am done now. I am enjoying Beth too much and when I am daily reminded of the struggles other folks are enduring … struggles that are all too familiar … I don’t want to go there again.

Another question asked me about my career choices or aspirations. All I ever wanted to do was be a veterinarian. I really didn’t have a “Plan B” for what I would do if I didn’t get accepted into veterinary school. I guess God had a Plan B, because I sure am on a different career trajectory than I expected.

One question asked me what I was passionate about? That was easy! Of course, I answered ATN and getting services for families and kids. Kelly is here visiting this week, and she was playing the game too. She chimed in, “What is she passionate about? Well, she’s about 4 and a half feet, long dark hair … that’s what Nancy's passionate about!” Too funny, and too correct. I am passionate about Beth!

There was another question involving money and career … neither Kelly nor I can remember it exactly. (Surely it isn’t the daiquiris?) It was something about making money, getting enough money … the answer was easy. I make NO money with ATN and would make a decent salary as a veterinarian … but it wouldn’t be making the same kind of difference. But it was food for thought ...

The other two players tonight were neighbors of mine, and they were part of our foursome to Cowgirl Camp in April, where we rustled cattle. They lead “normal” lives, relatively speaking. They can’t relate to the feces-on-the-wall stories or other tales we told. Kelly’s and my perspectives are clearly warped compared to “average” people. I was glad Kelly was here so I wasn't the only one with warped perspectives!

I especially liked the question that asked something about can I laugh at difficult things! Do ya think? Most folks are shocked at what I can now laugh about! We've come a long way, baby!
