It has been quite the busy weekend here at Spoolstra Manor. Kyle and Marie flew in for the weekend and accomplished a most exciting task… they signed a contract to purchase a townhome and move here at the end of this year. How exciting to have it official that our “kids” are moving back close to us!
Amy joined us both yesterday and today as well. Her demeanor was appropriate yesterday, although her attire was not. My husband defined her “look” as something one would see in “the Hood”. (Side bar here… last night while waiting for a table at the restaurant, I watched a young man walk—and I use that term loosely—into the restaurant. His gait was more like a waddle because his red shorts came down to his
ankles and were buckled way below his buttocks and in the middle of his upper legs. I couldn’t figure out how his shorts could possibly be that low without being buckled that low, but I couldn’t believe what I was seeing… at least until he sat down, pulled up the long shirt and retrieved something out of the pocket that was at the level of his
knees. OK, I must be WAY out of touch here…) Anyway, Amy’s dress was neither seasonally appropriate nor in keeping with anything she ever saw modeled in our home.

As I mentioned, Amy’s demeanor was not inappropriate. However, several times she linked arms with me or put her arm over my shoulder. I know she was/is trying to, as she said to Steph last fall, “build a relationship” with me. As I mentioned in this
previous blog, I am having a very hard time getting into this new approach of hers. I want it… I want a better relationship with her. But right before we got together last night I opened the envelope from school which contained their request for
my attendance at a meeting that addressed Amy’s boycotting of her detention which she received for her frequent and unexcused absences at school! This in spite of the fact that I have repeatedly told the school she is emancipated and I have no involvement in whether she shows up at school or not.
