A long time ago I complained to a friend of mine that my schedule for the day was shot, thanks to all the unexpected things that life tends to throw your way. And my friend responded… “That’s what you get for making a schedule!” I have thought of that so many times.
Well, today was one of those days. I have had a box of pictures sitting on my entry way floor for weeks, waiting to be hung on the bare walls. I keep thinking, “Today will be the day.” But thus far, that “today” has not come.

I did walk 4+ miles this afternoon, so that was productive. And I talked to a west coast mom this morning who has way more on her plate than the average person should have, including a very ill husband and a fairly recently adopted young teen girl who is struggling with lots and lots of scary things. I greeted the Nebraska Furniture Mart delivery guys who seem to be beating a fairly regular path to my door. I swept a fraction of the dog hair dust bunnies that whoosh in the air as I walk down the hallway, and I brushed the two canines who most contribute to that aspect of my décor.

After cleaning up from my walk, I sat down to do some work. I started by leaving a message for Deborah Hannah about her book,
The Unlit Path. Read fellow blogger Cindy Bodie’s review of it
here.
I read half of this book on the way home last night and plan to finish it tonight. Actually, I planned to finish it today, but that was part of that schedule I never should have made… Right after leaving a message for Deborah Hannah, I received a very poignant email from a mom on the east coast who had just read
my story. (My story desperately needs an update but I haven’t had the time in years…) Anyway, this mom really related to what I had written about my family, and as I read her email, I kept thinking… she needs to read
An Unlit Path, too! And this is a “mover-and-shaker” mom who has worked hard to support other families in her community, in spite of continual abuse by her local social service agency.
So putting together my processing today of what I have read thus far in
An Unlit Path, plus the email from this east coast mom, plus the SOS from the west coast mom, plus my own experiences which are never far beneath my skin, plus what I hear from folks like you who are reading this blog… and I am thinking… OK, we parents have the power… we need to get all of us mover-and-shaker moms (and dads) together and raise one heck of a stink in this country. WE NEED SERVICES and WE NEED SUPPORT. Wanna join us? Get on board!! Let me know if you want to help or what you want to do, or join ADN at www.radzebra.org and help us build a coalition strong enough that someone HAS to listen. In the ten years since I started ADN, I'd like to say things are better... but they clearly are not.
I will be blogging my own review of
An Unlit Path soon...
