Go out and PLAY!

herding cattleI have a confession to make. I have been “dripping” these posts out for the last several days. While you all have been thinking I am hunched over my computer cranking out new masterpieces every day… in actuality I have been rounding up cattle in Colorado with three of my girlfriends!

For the first time in ages I left my computer at home. I haven’t been writing blogs, creating newsletters, emailing or talking to stressed out parents (except the one call I took on the way to Colorado) or writing proposals to get money or volunteers or Twinkies for the conference.

This trip came together because one of my horseback riding buddies spent a week on this dude ranch last summer with her family. They had a ton of fun, so when the word went out there was a “gal’s weekend” in April, four of us signed up to go. Our neighborhood is bereft of moms… I can only imagine how our kids and critters are faring. Usually we leave one at a time and watch out for each other’s dependents!

I really, really need this trip. As passionate as I am about helping families and kids, I am becoming consumed by this organization. I often wonder if I am neglecting Beth because my time is so overrun with ATN responsibilities. I don’t sew like I did for the older kids; I don’t do crafts and we don’t bake much. I find it very hard to go and play when there is so much work to be done.

But you know what? I should do it anyway. And so should you. I mentioned in this post that I count on my dogs to fill my tank… but I shouldn’t neglect other tank-filling adventures that come my way. I did drop everything Monday night and take Beth to the school roller skating party. I have the bruise on my knee to prove it—she fell right in front of me and I took a header right over her.

What are you doing for YOU this weekend? I’ll be home Sunday night and I’ll tell you how four crazy cowpoke-ettes herd cattle… stay tuned!

"Dripping' posts is such a disgusting sounding concept, but I'm SO happy for you getting away.

Girlfriends and horses. What could be better?

I'm spending my weekend reorganizing categories and trying to stay "on topic". How relaxing ... not.

I am currently on my way to the Skate Rink with a group of 10 yr olds, I think you scared me!
Have a great time away, you deserve it!

that is the coolest thing ever.
My friend lives in colorado.
I am going to be watching cable and complaining about how much i hate it while trying to spring clean my apartment against my will.
Cleaning is boring. I want my rabbit to clean instead

I am going out to dinner with four adoptive-mom friends for some great conversation. The kids are on their way to grandma's house.

Oh, and I'm trying desperately to get the house ready for a big party for my son next week. We're now in the stage where it's all torn apart. Ugh...anybody wanna come and put it back together?

Nancy, you do SO much for so many.... it's about time to do something for yourself! Horses, girlfriends and the Great Outdoors -what could be better?

Fill your tank whenever you can, so you can be there for yourself and your family. Don't forget to delegate ATN stuff whenever possible. We all need to watch the gauge on our tanks.

I spent last weekend at a family reunion in California. No hubby or kids, just 100+ cousins, plus my sister and niece (whom I had not seen in over 4 years). I am still processing the experience, but it was phenominal!

Glad you got away. When you said you were going to CO, I presumed you were going to see your parents. Glad it was for something equally as good, or possibly even better.

I just returned from my scheduled bible study weekend, that is filled with friends, both old and new. I grew in spirit, and spent time laughing with friends and just being silly. It is great!!

What a fantastic opportunity! I hope you're having a great time!

I am doing squat, bupkis, nothing rejuvenating this weekend. Your post is a good reminder that I NEED to start doing things to fill my tank -- I haven't for a long time and I KNOW what it looks like when the tank is empty (trust me, it is NOT pretty!) -- can't figure out why it's so hard to pay attention to my own spirit, take my own temperature and be sure it's all good. Thanks for the little kick in the pants!

(Now, hoping that's the ONLY kind of 'kick in the pants' you'll be knowing about this weekend! ;-)
