computer techArrggghh!! I spent another frustrating day dealing with computer issues. This morning while trying to address the switching of ADN’s website from one server to another, the ADN phone line was “connected” but so static-filled as to be unusable. When I tried to call someone else later, I couldn’t get it to connect. And then I had no dial tone at all.

After talking to THREE support reps, connecting and reconnecting power to the phone adapter, the modem and my router (repeatedly), reconfiguring the router and adapter (repeatedly)… it still didn’t work. So then they decided to send me a new router… and as we were discussing that, all of the sudden the ADN line came online. The explanation? A tech there decided, on a whim (using his words) to program HIS account information into my adapter, and it worked! So then he switched it back to my account info and it still worked. Very scientific. Suddenly their server could “find” my adapter. A whole day shot.

And then there is my local network… I can search and find my new Dell from my old Dell but the icon won’t show up anywhere… so it makes it hard to share between the computers. And in upgrading the firmware for my router, I screwed up my wireless network encryption! ARRGGH!

Kinda reminds me of life with our kiddos… one step forward, several steps backward. Try this medication but we don’t know if it will work… but if not, we can try this other thing… or put them together…. Or wish on a star…. Or whatever!! But by all means, if it isn’t SCIENTIFIC… you can’t do it. So I guess I should not be using my phone line now, because it wasn’t a dyed-in-the-wool, proven, repeatable, scientific fix. The fact that it WORKED is irrelevant… Even if it worked hundreds or thousands of times, when other stuff DIDN’T work… it still doesn’t count. (Gee, I wonder where I am going with this….???)
