Off to a resort but not to relax!

As you are reading this, I will be on the road heading to a resort in Osage Beach, Missouri, in the Lake of the Ozarks region. Today is the beginning of a conference of the Missouri Coalition of Children’s Agencies. According to their website, they are:

… the premiere membership coalition who represents abused and neglected children and the people who care for those children. The coalition advances excellence in child welfare practice.

This is a different type of exhibiting opportunity. For two hours tomorrow night, all conference attendees will be encouraged to tour all the exhibits. Apparently, prizes are awarded for documenting that all tables were visited! I am most interested in seeing how the Attachment & Trauma Network information is received at this conference. Certainly, we also advocate for abused and neglected children and the people who care for those children. One would think we all have much in common. I’ll let you know how it goes.

I was planning on returning Tuesday morning, but my husband’s travel schedule required that I return tonight, so I won’t be home until close to midnight. I’m taking two Border collies with me for company!

Other than a brief exhibit opportunity here locally, in celebration of National Adoption month, I don’t have too much else planned for this year. I’m glad. I am also wondering how well I will be received at this last local adoption fair … but I gave them plenty of opportunity to decline to provide me with booth space!

Julie is getting the booth paraphernalia next, as she has some exhibit opportunities in her neck of the woods. ATN has nearly 20 volunteer staff members at this point, and we are really rockin’ and rollin’! I think it is wonderful. More folks who can join our ranks = more of a voice we can raise to procure the services we need to make our families strong. Have you joined yet? We need your vote!

Tan-Tar-A holds special memories for Super Dad and I -- we danced there together for the first time - while working the booth.

Just seeing the logo made me smile!

Hope you enjoy the conference. Are the kids going with you? We had a GREAT weekend.

After Coach and J had their talk, they decided he had to be in at 3am on Friday night. He came in at 1am. He’s never been early before! He slept from 1am that night until 1 pm on Saturday. He was out of it, and I just let him sleep. I think he was exhausted from all the stress of the week before.

When he got up he was in a really good mood. J mowed the yard for us in the afternoon. Then his birthday party was that evening. His Aunt and her boyfriend came over. That’s the only decent family he has. We had a nice steak dinner. Then we put 18 candles on J’s cake and had him make a wish and blow them out. I think he really enjoyed it.

We another good day on Sunday. He was wrestling and playing with the little kids...in a good mood.

I told him that I was glad to see him smiling again, and that it seemed like he’d been happy the last couple of days. I wanted to point out that he’d been happy AND drug free. He shrugged at first, but then said yes he’d been happy.

We had the family counseling session this morning, and it went really well. He wasn’t participating much at first, but opened up somewhat by the end. He’s going to see her weekly for a while. Woooo Hooooo. He needs it so badly. Then Coach and I will participate every other week. This is in addition to his rehab classes.

The counselor told me privately that we are doing the right things. She said we did the right thing in backing off on the consequences as we did. She also said that she thinks he wants what we have to offer, he’s just afraid of it. She helped reaffirm for me what you posted.

It was soooo nice to have a peaceful weekend. He needed it, and we needed it.

Nancy, I am so jealous! I would love to go to Tan-Tar-a this time of year! I have been a few times, but always in the dead of winter (Lutheran Teacher's conferences, ugh.) Hope you have a great time there.

Bippette, Good news! Sounds like things are falling into place for your family.
