trioWhen I arrived at the airport, I realized that when I asked my husband to put my Palm Pilot and sunglasses in my purse, he put them in the purse I had just emptied, not the one on the counter I had indicated. So they are now on their way to me via overnight UPS. Of course, my sister-in-law’s cell phone number and all other contact info is in my Palm… So while waiting in the Kansas airport, I once again gathered the information I would need to notify my brother and his wife of my arrival.

On the way through security, I broke a huge chunk out of my thumb nail—a hunk of acrylic and a hunk of my regular nail. Nevertheless, the show must go on, so I took my laptop out of my backpack, along with my camera. I put my shoes on the conveyor belt. I went through the metal detector and got busted. I had to take my belt off, displaying my nice white, high, old lady undies under my black pants. No svelte bikinis for me anymore. I redressed and regrouped on the other side of security.

When I was on the plane during the first leg of my journey, I realized I hadn’t stuck my GPS system in my purse upon exiting my car. I had planned to use it as we tooled around Florida… but I guess not.

I am still struggling mightily with leaving Beth when she is ill. I was dreading (and she was too) being separated from her, even under the best of conditions. These are not the best of conditions. She’s healthy emotionally and well-attached… but still we are the Velcro twins. She doesn’t like to be away from me and I don’t like to be away from her. My neighbor assures me this is just a blip on the radar screen… but what a painful blip for both Beth and me. But it sure is a testament to how much we love each other, isn’t it? Have I mentioned how crazy I am about this kid? I ate the rest of the cookie I was going to save to help me deal with the stress…

I arrived in the Ft. Lauderdale airport. My sister-in-law and my parents picked me up at the airport. Five blocks from their home, we had a flat tire. I walked the last few blocks, towing my suitcase and laptop. I changed into warm weather clothes and walked to the local nail salon where I had my thumbnail repaired. We had a great dinner, followed by an ugly conversation with my brother who could not and would not figure out his security key so I could access his wireless network. I am now tethered to the router, which is fine… I just don’t know why he had to be so nasty about it. He’s tired, I get that… he is a pilot for American and he just returned from flying a three day trip where he loses a whole night’s sleep. Still… he and my sister-in-law have NO kids, much less ever having learned how to flex and bend around the emotionally disturbed variety. One of the few perks to having tough kids, yes? I don’t lose it over Internet connections.

I am getting a headache from the wine I consumed rather quickly at dinner… so I think I’ll check in with my family and go to bed. Tomorrow mom and I are getting out of Dodge.

I hope the remainder of this trip will be a bit more predictable and positive. I’ll keep you posted.
