The never ending journey

journeyMy dogs are happily snoozing after eating some delicious kibble enhanced with beef juice from a recent pot roast. They are oblivious to the million things on my “to do” list today. This is yet another run-around day where the hurrier I go, the behinder I get.

I spoke with a mom this morning that has a clone of my Amy, and a variation of my Tommy. She lives in another state, but that doesn’t matter. Few (if any) states provide services for the Tommys or Amys of the world. Although the judge involved in this mom’s situation praised the family for going “above and beyond the call of duty”, the state social services continues to be a huge part of the problem rather than any part of the solution. They would rather send nasty emails than help this family. Surprise surprise.

I received a poignant email from Deb Hannah after she read my blogs that reviewed her book. I think we’re both in a tailspin, realizing just how similar our stories are and just how deep our wounds go. This pain is the pits.

I spent considerable time on the phone this morning talking to a representative of the VISTA volunteer program. I am looking into applying for VISTA volunteers to assist ADN in moving forward and helping the many, many families who keep coming out of the woodwork and sharing their oh-so-similar stories. Does anyone have any experience with VISTA? Or any advice for me?

In between the never-ending ADN business I did manage to start a pot of soup, and feed myself and my now-content dogs.

Now I need to put together my presentation for 25 foster families next Monday night, so I can get my handouts to the coordinator of the program. I still need to do conference planning, and find out how to change the name of a non-profit, and oh, forget unpacking any boxes or hanging any pictures on the wall, or even cleaning my filthy house. I MUST find time to walk, as my hips reflect my time spent at my computer… and the dogs’ happiness will only last an hour or two.
